Koda Boy

We have had so much fun with Koda!  This was our first full weekend with him.  On Saturday, we had our friends Jen and Dave, their baby Grayson, and puppy Piper over.  We were hoping that Piper and Koda would become great buds, however Koda was infatuated with Grayson.  Grayson, who will turn 1 in October is already toddling around on his own!  Koda followed him all over the apartment, getting licks in here and there.  Koda eventually wore himself out and that's when Grayson made his move as you can see in these pictures...

Koda did exceptionally well, allowing Grayson to pull on his paws and fur.  We did however, catch them trying to get a little nibble of each other - once with Koda's paw in Grayson's mouth and then with Grayson's tiny fingers in Koda's mouth.  As usual we had a great time with the Booth family!

Jen and Dave were nice enough to bring Koda a toy - a football attached to a rope.  Koda was thrilled! Although like most of his toys, it lasted 20 minutes tops. Sorry Jen and Dave.

At least he still has the football part.

The rest of our weekend was nice and relaxing.  Despite the heat we were able to go for walks early in the morning, late at night, and were able to enjoy the porch a little too.

Tonight we took Koda with us to get ice cream at Goodberry's and after being chased away by a bunch of bees and ants, we decided to check out the dog park near our house.  Since it was so late there weren't many dogs there, however Koda spent the first 5 minutes standing on top of the picnic table avoiding the other dogs until a sweet German shepherd mix was able to coax him down for a friendly game of tug-of-war - Koda's favorite!

Koda has been a wonderful addition to our family.  He is truly a great dog, we couldn't have asked for a better one!

Meet Koda

For the past couple of months, Carter and I have been thinking about getting a pet.  Carter wanted a dog to be able to take outside and throw a ball, take on walks, etc. - one that would make a good companion.  So, we started looking on Petfinder.com and found Koda.  We applied for him and about two weeks later, we met with Koda's foster family and were approved to adopt him!

Koda was rescued by his foster family from a kill shelter on the day he was supposed to be put down.  He had come to the shelter as a stray, and since no one claimed him within 72 hours, he was on his way out.  Thanks to Koda's foster family, he is a healthy, active 8 month old puppy.  His foster parents invested lots of time and energy training Koda as well.  He knows how to sit, lay down and stay, using voice commands and hand signals.  Koda's been trained NOT to jump on people - how great is that?  He also only barks when he's playing - another plus!

I enjoyed spending my day off playing with Koda, getting him used to his new surroundings and keeping him in his routines.  Although, he did enjoy a car ride to meet Carter for lunch today - something that won't be part of his normal schedule.

Here are some pictures of Koda from today...there will be many more to come!

Life's a Beach

Yesterday, the girls from my small group and I had a bridal shower for our friend Brady, who is getting married in September.  After the shower, we drove to Wrightsville beach together for the day.  It was the perfect beach weather - about 85 degrees, a nice cool breeze all day - we didn't want to leave.  Before we left we ate at a great little seafood place on the water.  All in all, we had a great time!
